Quick wine post coming: Along ESC 2012 and a nice raw steak with truffle-potatoes, I am having a wine from Jozsef Bock, a great producer in Hungary. All these East European countries (I loved the Russian Grandmas) bring back memories and inspired me to dig this bottle out of the cellar. Let’s see what it has in store for us:

Jozsef Bock

Comments: The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon is just at its peak now, tannins softened and opened up. Scorched earth and toasted oak counter a dark berry-like fruitiness and lots of bell peppers. There also is leather and radiccio. It somehow reminds me of an autumnal walk in a forest with fallen leaves (but not like an old Bordeaux after rain with mushrooms, this is a bit fresher). Great balance.

On the palate it is medium-dry and not as concentrated as one wishes but it accompanies the meal in a great way by this unobtrusive behaviour. The Bock finishes rather leathery and adds scents of tobacco leaf to its aroma portfolio. Good job!

Score: 91
