Review: Glenrothes 30 y.o. The Macphail’s Collection, 43%

The Macphail’s Collection stands for great old whisky at an afordable price and can still be found on some shelves. This Glenrothes version is one of the winners within this range. Despite the 43% the whisky makes itself heard clearly as the review will show:

Glenrothes 30 y.o. Gordon & MacPhail ‚The Macphail’s Collection‘, 43%

Comment: This quite dark liquid with a nice Sherry-cask influence reveals a very complex nose consisting of dark fruits (plums, raisins), baked apple, dark forest honey, nougat, pomegranate seeds, pine needle, pepper and cinnamon. On the palate this unusual yet harmonic profile renders pine resin, apples, sandalwood, fallen leafs, pomegranate and this wonderful Sherry note again. The medium-length finish follows the described style and reminds the taster of mulled wine (hot wine punch with Christmas spices). Nicely strange, altogether and therefore, a recommendation!
